小娘惹

December 27, 2008 · 6 Comments

Everyone is talking about the 9 pm channel 8 drama. Am wondering what was the recent hype about 小娘惹. My mummy absolutely love it! So is Dearie. He practically gush about how nice the show is and declared that he is going to get the VCDs once it is out since he have been missing quite alot of episode.

Personally, I am not so enthusiatic about watching 小娘惹. Will get very fustrated due to the plot. Characters scheming to harm one another. Typical good guy suffering at first then heroine win in the end. 凄凄惨惨 plot. Though I must applaud the show for showing us the Peranakan culture. And I thought this show is for aunties. And I have so much fun teasing Dearie about it. And I thought all my friends have no interest for this show until yesterday night. I receive a call from Jerlyn Dear.

Jerlyn: 你在那里?

Me: 在家lah!

And she proceed to to ask me the next strange question.

Jerlyn: 你住那里?

Already quite perplexed at her sudden phone call coupled with loads of strange questions, I answered:

Me: Buangkok Crescent lah! You call the wrong person is it?

And then the girl got the cheek to say

Jerlyn: 当然找你lah! Can borrow your TV for 1 hour? I want to watch 小娘惹.

(-.-””) What in the world! Jerlyn Dear watching 小娘惹! I was gaping with surprise. I was beginning to think the person on the other end is not Jerlyn. When I told her I need to ask my mummy. Jerlyn’s reply confirmed that it was her.

Jerlyn: No need to ask lah! I so cute and nice. Auntie sure let me come one. See you in half an hour time!

And she proceed to hang up.

True enough! She arrived at my house at 8.30 pm sharp! Never been so punctual before. And sat staring at the black box bewitched.

Wow! Jerlyn has upgraded herself to that of the status of an auntie! I’m so proud of you, Jerlyn! Keep it up! ;)

Hong Kong Trip: 17/12/2008 – 21/12/2008

December 27, 2008 · 7 Comments

I’m back!!! Back from a land which served excellent, mouth-salivating food! Dim Sum, dessert, the list goes on… I love them all. Though I must say that I didn’t managed to get much clothing at all. *Sigh*

Day 1

Reached the airport at around 7 plus in the morning. Checked in and we wandered around the duty-free shops to kill time. Called Mummy to tell her I was already at the airport and chat with her for a while. Went to board the plane at 8.45am. Plane took off at 9.15am. Goodbye Singapore!

Us at Changi Airport

Plane touched down at 12.30pm. Hello Hong Kong!

picture-005

Waited for quite a while for the tour bus to ferry us to our destinated hotel – MetroPark CauseWay situated at 天后. Because of the ample warning given by Mummy, Xuan and Shi, I braced myself for the first wave of cold air to hit me once I reached the gate. Nothing. In fact, I was feeling kinda warm due to the strong beam from the sun. Was beginning to wonder if Xuan and Shi had hyped up on the weather of Hong Kong. Both Dearie and me were slightly annoyed to realise that we were stuck in a jam on our way to the hotel. |

Reached hotel and seriously I could recommend this hotel to anyone who want to go Hong Kong. Nice and cozy interior. Best part, the toilet is spacious and clean! We proceed for some shopping at Central. Found H & M and I went crazy. Tried a dozen of shirts, dresses and skirts but ended up buying only a shirt and a skirt.

Douglas called and he bought us to eat dinner. Bascially, like 煮炒. Got pig intestine soup, 2 duck-related dishes as well as a veggie dish. Simply mouth-watering! Douglas then took us down for a drive at this long winding road which showcased the very expensive apartment at the 2 sides of the road.

Douglas is really a hell of a driver, which got me asking him, “You sure you have not met with any kind of accident before?” and finally declaring.” I think I’m going to be sick. Feel like vomiting.” Oh, Dearie offered to drive the car. Douglas’ immediate refusal had me laughing at them. Cheekily, I offered to drive, which had Douglas holding the keys even tighter.

We ended the night having 龟零膏 as dessert and Douglas telling me the places to shop.

Day 2

All ready for some serious shopping. Went 尖沙咀 and 旺角. But was extremely disappointed and quite dejected as my shopping cart remained empty at the end of the day, except for the gift I managed to get for the girls. Personalised keychains! You girls can start guessing who gets what! ;)

Thankfully, Dearie managed to get some shopping done and our shopping trip was not wasted. Saving grace for the day’s event was the food. Thanks to shi’s recommendation, Dearie bought me to “糖朝” to have lunch.

My favourite porridge.

Check this out! Freaking expensive egg tarts that cost S$2 each.

Head down to Causeway Bay to meet Douglas and girlfriend. Finally got to meet Douglas’ girlfriend! Such a lovely and bubbly girl. Make me feel welcome instantly. They bought us to have dinner at a resturant called “喜宴”. Featuring  some of my favourite dishes:

The very cute couple and our very warm and gracious host for our entire Hong Kong trip.

On Dearie’s suggestion, Karen bought us to have 汤圆 as dessert and also as an early celebration for 冬至which we will both missed due to our trip.

Day 3

Was quite touched that Karen and Douglas took leave to take us sight-seeing. They took us to see the Big Buddha. Took MTR to 东涌 and then took a freaking long cable ride to our destination. Though the ride offered nice scenic views, I was kinda freaked out by the height we are at.

And Douglas, irritating as hell, started recounting stories on how there have been accidents when they test-rided the cable car and due to technical faults, the cable cars stopped mid-air when they first started the cable car. He proceed to inform me now and then, “Oh, we are going down now. Look!” All this while, I sat glaring at him. And that Dearie did nothing to quell my fear. He went on snapping photos of all the views which I never get to appreciate. Karen is the nice one. She told Douglas to stop teasing me. Douglas protested saying, “I am just stating facts!” – which I have to grudgingly agree.

The frightening Cable Car Ride

Check out the flights of stairs we have to take in order to have a close-up view of the Buddha. Total of 267 steps to be exact.

Karen took us to a mall which have all the various factory outlets. Only managed to get myself a skirt and a bag after 1 full day of walking around. However, Dearie managed to get several.

Went to 金源小馆to have dinner. 煮炒 styled dinner again. I like!! I declared to Dearie that this is my favourite eatery in Hong Kong. Because the owner said I look Japanese. Finally! Someone who didn’t say I look like I am from China. ;)

Day 4

Karen took us hiking. All the way from ground zero to The Peak. Can see Hong Kong and all the tall skyscrappers from the peak.

The HSBC building that is known for its bad Fengshui

Karen and Douglas planned french cuisine for us that night, together with their friends. We have to dress up according to the Christmas theme. And Karen was the sexy Santa Clause. Very pretty and charming indeed!

Bon Appetite! Did exchanging of gifts as well. A typical christmas dinner in a foreign land. Wished the girls were here as well.

Day 5

Last minute shopping in Sogo at Causeway Bay. Got a small gift for Wenjing. P And loads of 老婆饼 and 黄梨酥 for family and friends. Went to have lunch at this restaurant near our hotel.

dscf4373-small

Douglas, you ought to check this restuarant out! Served extremely nice dim sum and other delicacies.

Finally, reached airport at 4 plus. Goodbye Hong Kong and Home Sweet Home at 10.30pm. Called mummy to tell her I’m safely back. Nothing beats coming home. P

Karen and Douglas – The next time we will be visiting Hong Kong will be for your wedding. P

I Love Plays!

December 15, 2008 · Leave a Comment

After yesterday, I think I am a total addict to plays. Managed to catch a Hossen Leong – directed comedy cum musical play with Dearie yesterday. The play “Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs” is actually last month’s Monthinversary gift from Dearie.

Sounds like a typical fairy-tale which only children will love right? WRONG! The play is actually a funny, light-hearted musical, making digs at mainly political issues in Singapore. Very endearing to the heartlanders like us – can so totally relate to the characters.

Will NEVER forget what Snow White says. “There’s this very isolated and deserted place where I can secretly feed the animals. That is the Speaker’s Corner.” Had me laughing my head off. There are alot of such degrading comments with regards to Singapre politics. I just can’t remember them all.

All in all, I  enjoyed the play tremendously. Finally! Somethings apart from the movie which me and Dearie could catch! Though the tickets’ price are slightly pricer, I thought it is worth every penny we paid forth. Can’t wait to catch the next play with Dearie again!P

W.E.D.D.I.N.G at Raffles Hotel

December 7, 2008 · 1 Comment

Went for Dearie’s good friend’s wedding yesterday. This good friend is actually  Dearie’s “大姐”.  This “大姐”took really good care of Dearie, back in his university days in Sheffield. Though I have only seen her twice before, I have taken a liking to her immediately. Really like a “大姐”. Very friendly with a warm personality. No wonder Mr Watson (her hubby) is so mesmerized by her.P

Seeing the couple walk down the aisle, I really feel happy for them. I believe that Dearie is also sincerely very happy for his “大姐” for finding her soulmate at last.

Raffles Hotel. Nice Ambience. Scrumptious dinner. I love every single dish except maybe for the 琵琶鸭. The shark’s fin and the dessert are the best. Simply delightful!

Oh and check out the wedding favours! So charming. They actually have different gifts for alternate seats.

And I absolutely appreciate the effort that the bride took to do up the stand as well as the personalised name card for each seat. All hand-made! NICE! P

Lastly, blissful marriage to Sze Pheng and Mark! Hope to see little Watsons running around the next time we meet! ;)

Mummy Vs Boy Boy

December 5, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Brother and I were listening to the radio yesterday when Mummy dear, feeling real cheeky, decided to tease my brother.

“都不是很会唱歌,还听什么radio?”

“Then 妈咪你也不会演戏,看什么电视?”

The stunned expression on Mummy’s face was priceless. ;) I was already shrieking with laughter by then. Mummy burst into peels of laughter soon after.

Oh my god! That’s like the wittiest retort I have ever heard.  Good repartee Brother! ;)

Dearie’s Favourite

December 5, 2008 · 2 Comments

Always have been posting about what my favourite songs are. Now its my turn to post about songs that Dearie likes.

This fellow is Dearie’s current favourite. He can have this song on repeat mode for like hours. He said the tune keeps ringing in his head.

楊宗緯 – 洋蔥

I have to leech this song from my brother and burnt it into a CD for him. Glad he love it! P

“Tis the season to be jolly. Fa la la la la la la la la la…” Yup! That’s the current songs playing in Dearie’s car’s audio now. Thanks to the approaching festive season.

Dearie sure has an extensive genre of songs he likes, doesn’t he? D

Mummy’s Belated Birthday Treat

December 3, 2008 · 10 Comments

Treated Mummy to her Birthday lunch today finally! Though it is kinda belated, I am pleased to see my Mummy’s delightful expression. Seeing her enjoyed the meal today, I certainly feel elated. Happy Belated Birthday, Mummy. P

Bought her and brother dear to have lunch at Cafe Vic at Carlton hotel. Brother was as usual gorging himself with so much food. “So that you won’t waste your money.” Brother said to me. How thoughtful of him. Mummy loves the dessert alot! I love the dessert too! In fact, I thought the dessert was way better than the main course. Overall, it is definitely not a bad choice for lunch.

Would be wonderful if Dearie could join us for lunch too. Unfortuantely, he has to work. Poor boy!

Pssst Dearie… I honestly did tried to sneak out your favourite cheese plus some dessert for you. Unfortuantely, I got caught by some waitress and have to dump the serviette with the food on the table. You believe me, don’t you? D
