The Japanese In Us!

October 28, 2008 · 6 Comments

And so, instead of working our ass off last Friday, Dearie and me went to feast at Kuishin-bo – a restaurant serving Japanese buffet. Dearie specially took off to keep me company for the day.

Because it is the start of the school holiday, I was in an excellent mood. And looking at the assortment of delectable food displayed in front of my very eyes, my mood immediately lifted a few notches higher. An excellent start to a great day!

Our first stop, the sushi and sashimi bar. YUMMY! If there’s one food I really love, that’s sushi and sashimi. I simply adore them! Look at the 2 plateful of sushi and sashimi that we both wolfed down within minutes. They are simply delicious!

And introducing soup in a cute mini teapot! This is my favourite at the moment. Has a sweet, flavorful taste to it.

And of course we went through many rounds of food sampling and gorged ourselves with so much food. Verdict for the food in Kuishin-bo: We both love the sushi and sashimi because it is simply mouth-watering. However, the tepanyaki section is not really up to our standard.

Finally, dessert time! Aren’t they drool-worthy?

Everything was going along fine until we stood up to leave. A sense of queasiness washed over me the moment I stood up. SHIT! I must have gorged myself with too much food – way too much for me to stomach. | This is the first time I feel like emptying my stomach after a buffet lunch. Think age is catching up on me – can no longer eat like in the past when I can still stuffed myself with so much food and walk away with just a bloated stomach. Damn!

Been feeling kinda blue the entire day after that. My day was ruined totally and I lost my mood to do the things that we actually planned for the day. Can sense the disappointment in Dearie. So sorry.  ( I think I will abstain from Japanese food for now.

Singapore Art Festival

October 21, 2008 · 3 Comments

I have something to confess – I am honestly so an artistically-not-inclined person. Frankly, I have no interest in art and I always view art as a useless subject, which is a complete waste of my time. In fact, I was so bad with art in Secondary School that I have to resort to asking my friends and my brother to do some art pieces for me. Especially art pieces that required me to lavish an object with different shades. That is considered a nightmare to me because I just simply could not get the shading right.

Under my teacher’s strict scunity, my art piece was rejected so many times that i started to get so fustrated hearing my teacher’s criticism that she cannot distinguish any form of shading on my art piece. Honestly, I do not know whether to be more annoyed with her or at myself. Left with no choice, I have to discreetly ask my friend to do the art work for me. Dearie said I was cheating. ;) Oh well…

And they say art is subjective. Funny how I was criticised for an art work which I thought was quite well done. Imagine my exuberance when I knew that taking art as a subject is history once I finished my lower Sec education.

Dearie is an exact opposite of me. He LOVES and enjoys viewing art pieces. Even got a painting hanging on the wall in front of his bed. Therefore, you can imagine his excitement when he knows that the Singapore Biennale is here in Singapore again.

Went with Dearie to check out the art exhibits at City Hall last Saturday. Was quite reluctant to tag along since I have no interest in art. Already had an image of me trudging behind and Dearie skipping from exhibit to exhibit. However, the art exhibition was not as bad as I thought it to be. In fact, I had fun viewing the exhibits and even found some of the art works rather intriguing.

Featuring some of the art pieces that I really liked:

This art piece is actually a satellite view of Singapore. Had fun scouting through the map, trying to locate Dearie’s and my house. Found mine eventually, with help from Dearie while Dearie found his quite effortlessly. D

This is the art piece that I found to be the most fanscianting and most meaningful.

When you glanced across this art piece from the back, the little plants on the gound are dull in colour. Give me a gloomy feeling, like an abandoned piece of land. But when you glanced across from the front, the plants are colored with vibrant colours. Its like the plants are really sprouting from the gound with life. Imagine a meadow full of beautiful, blooming flowers.

When I first saw this piece of art, “人间还有希望” just flashed through my mind. Thought about the recent econminc gloom and I thought that maybe things are not as bad as what the newspaper portrayed it to be. “船到桥头,自然之直” How so very true. Have a glimmer of hope and things might just work out the way you want it to be after some time.

Though some of the art pieces proved too “cheem” for me to understand the underlying meaning, I had a wonderful time viewing the exhibits. Also realise that I do know how to appreciate art after all. ;)  Don’t mind going for any art exhibits in the future. D

Hong Kong Here We Come!

October 15, 2008 · 7 Comments

YEAH! Finally can get to venture and explore places further away from Singapore for once! :D 17/12/2008 will mark the day where it will be my first experience on board of a plane! Haha! (O manz! Sound so bloody  pathetic!)

Went with Dearie to book our tickets to Hong Kong yesterday. With our Hong Kong friends’ help as well as Dearie’s resourcefulness, we managed to get what we hope is the best deal around. Dearie saw a past promotion for Hong Kong package and pestered the poor sales guy for some free gifts. And he also make special requests for our hotel room. The room must firstly face harbourview and secondly must ensure that our room is at a higher storey. :D Though I do understand and appreciates the fact that he wants us to get the best of this trip, I cannot help but feel that Dearie is an exact mirror-image of my mummy!!! Mummy never fails to strike up a bargain whenever she went shopping. Told him so yesterday! Haha! On my part, I was trying my best to stifle my laughter and also to suppress my amazment about Dearie’s ability to bargain.

Anyway, I am so looking forward to the year end trip to Hong Kong with Dearie! Can’t wait to do some serious shopping outside  Singapore! :)

Dearie’s Hong Kong Friend

October 13, 2008 · 5 Comments

Its always nice to make new friends. More so, when that somebody is living outside of Singapore. Why? Because I can then proudly say that, “Finally I have friends from all around the world!” :D

Through Dearie, I managed to befriend alot of his friends. And I must say they are all wonderful people. All very kind and friendly people whom I like instantly once I get to know them. And thanks to his uni days abroad, I also get to know friends from different parts of the world.

For the whole of last week, Dearie was busy entertaining his Hong Kong Friend. A nice fellow, with well…. a Hong Kong accent attached to him. ;) Haha! Wasn’t used to his accent at first but slowly understanding the words that are sprouting out of his mouth. Dearie bought me to see him on Wednesday and the first thing he said to me was, ” Been wanting to meet you since 9 years ago! Nice to see you!” Thought that’s a sweet and funny thing to say.

Thanks to his visit, I managed to catch up with a bunch of Dearie’s wacky friends again. Maybe I should have count my blessing knowing this group of extremely loud, friendly and jovial friends. They are such sociable and extrovert creatures that you will not get any minute of silent awkwardness during the meet-up. Though I must mentioned that I do feel like murdering one of them – because of his straight-forwardness in making digs at the female species at every turn and also coming up with loads of nonsensical theories about relationship to brainwash Dearie. But deep down, I know they are just amiable people, with a good heart, whose hobby is to tease people.

Anyway, I have fun with them at St James’ Drangonfly. Being nice people they are, they offered me iced green tea and Dearie got my share of beer / liqour. Though them – I also learnt to play different kinds of games aiming to get people drunk. And I recognised a teacher in the making when I see one. A guy who can cajoled, forced, threatened, baited and taunted people into drinking and getting drunk. WOW! All the qualities required of being a good teacher. The Singapore’s education system’s loss of not having him as a permanent staff in MOE.

Nontheless, I have a great time at St James. And it is definitely nice knowing the bunch of wacky friends. :)

Chicken Soup for the soul and CD

October 5, 2008 · 3 Comments

Dearie is back!!! :D Back from his overseas work assignment. So very happy to see him back - safe and sound! :) Went to pick him up on Tuesday and gave him a small welcome gift. A CD compilation of the songs which I think he will like as well as personalised stickers.

Actually, the CD is a promise – which I make to him a long, long time ago. Supposed to burn him that CD some time back in July but because was so busy with work, have to put off till now. Was happily burning the CD last Saturday when my kiddo brother casually mentioned, “What is the use of burning the CD when maybe it cannot even be played on Eric’s CD player?” Worried, I tested the CD in my player and breathe a sigh of relief to know that it worked.

Tuesday evening, I happily slot the CD into Dearie’s CD player in his car. Guess what? The LCD screen displayed the words “CD ERROR” Damn! My brother and his big mouth! Anyway, Dearie ripped the songs out and burned it into another CD, ensuring that all the songs are in audio format. The CDs are now in his car and we are happily enjoying the songs.

And so its my turn to cook! Since I promise Dearie I will make nice 补汤 for him once he is back, I decided to do so on Saturday. My first attempt at cooking 香菇鸡汤 for Dearie! (Since he loves mushroom so much!)

Glad to see Dearie enjoying the soup! Poor Dearie, so stressed up from work. 辛苦你了!Shall cook some other nice soup for you the next time round! This I promised! :D

Baby Sweetie

October 3, 2008 · 2 Comments

Babies are always so sweet, cute and pretty. Especially 混血儿. I cannot resist but will go “Awww, so cute!?” whenever I see babies . That is also the reason why I had so much fun playing with Baby Talya on Wednesday. Presenting the cutest baby of the century:

Aww.. Isn’t she cute?! Hugh round eyes with a delightful smile on her face. This baby here is of mixed blood parentage. Mummy’s a Singaporean and Papa is from England. (both very nice people) And this baby is even more IT-savvy than me. She has an Email address and she’s only like 9 months old. And according to Papa, she loves expensive toys. Laptops and handphones are her current plaything. Oh, did I mention that she has a friends’s club and she gets to go to a baby gym. WOW! This is one cool baby girl I ever come across.

And she is so not camera-shy. Her face will lift up the moment she sees anything that clicks and has flash. Sort of remind me of Sian ;)

But I think the best part is that the mummy has 1 full YEAR of maternity leave! On top of that, she will also get her annual 18-days leave.

Oh manz, I so want to migrate to England! ;)
